Derek M. Jenkins (b. 1986, Germany) is currently working on his DMA Composition / MM Musicology at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and he holds degrees from Rice University and the University of Missouri-Kansas City. His music has been performed throughout the U.S., Europe and in Canada with select performances include those by the U.S. Army Materiel Command Band and wind bands at Florida State, UMKC, Arizona State, Iowa State, and Bethel College. Jenkins’s wind ensemble piece Eosphorus: The Morning Star was selected as a winner of the 2012 National Band Association’s Young Composer Mentor Project. He has received commissions from wind ensembles at the University of Tennessee at Martin, University of Missouri-Kansas City, Bethel College, Eleanor Roosevelt Middle School [Dubuque, IA]; the Mid America Freedom Band; the University of Missouri-Kansas City Saxophone Ensemble; and various individuals throughout the country. In his spare time, Jenkins is an amateur scuba diver and daydreams of becoming an astronaut.
