Jacob Miller Smith (b. 1992) holds a B.M in Music Composition and is currently earning his M.M. in Music Composition from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL. He has studied composition with C. P. First, Peter Westergaard, Amir Zaheri, and Marvin Johnson as well as conducting with Amir Zaheri. He is an active collaborator with student performers and groups, and has had performances in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and West Virginia. His music has won 2nd prize in the 2013 Frederic Goossen Memorial Composition Competition in addition to leading him to be selected as the first annual composer in residence for the University of Alabama Contemporary Ensemble during the 2013- 2014 concert season. Jacob Smith is a member of the Society of Composers Incorporated (SCI) and the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). He hopes to continue writing, collaborating, and teaching throughout his career as a musician.
