Jeffery Shivers is a composer based in Boston. His music has been performed by such artists as saxophonist Philipp Stäudlin, pianist Yoko Hagino, Industrial Carillon, The Generous Ensemble, and Boston New Music Initiative, among others. He has studied primarily with composers Nick Rissman and John McDonald, and participated in master classes and summer courses with Robert Paterson, James Mobberley, Paul Rudy, and Chen Yi. Recent distinctions include second prize in the 2013 NACUSA Young Composer Competition, a premiere at the 2014 PARMA Music Festival, and the 2015 Elliott S. Schwartz Prize. His compositions explore issues of process, closeness/intimacy, and extreme quietness (at the edge of silence). Jeffery is currently pursuing graduate studies at Tufts University.
