Composer Max Grafe is rapidly emerging onto the American new music scene. Mr. Grafe’s work has been hailed as “adept” and “imaginatively scored” by the Woodstock Times, and “bright, colorful, full of fascinating hues” and “a well woven tapestry of sound and program” by I Care If You Listen magazine. Mr. Grafe’s work has recently been performed by Quince Contemporary Vocal Ensemble, newEar Contemporary Chamber Ensemble, and bassoonists Elizabeth Garrett and Sasha Gee Enegren; the remainder of the 2013/2014 season will see further performances by Quince and Sasha Gee Enegren, as well as by pianist Han Chen and saxophone-percussion duo Patchwork. Mr. Grafe has received awards and honors from ASCAP, Indiana University, Highpoint Composition Seminar, and the Aspen Music Festival, and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the Juilliard School as a CV Starr Doctoral Fellow.
