Shergo Dakouri is a Kurdish composer from Syria. He was born in Sweden but raised in the rural town Amûdê in North-East Syria and started to play traditional Kurdish instruments when he was nine years old. He learnt musical notation and playing the guitar later. At the age of 18 he moved to Sweden and in 2008 he started to study composition at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm where he currently studies at masters level. Dakouri searchs for purity and straightforwardness of expression in music. Much of his music is based on traditional modes from Kurdistan and the Middle East, and nature is also an important source of inspiration.
