Thomas LaVoy (b. 1990, Marquette, MI) is a PhD researcher in music composition at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, where he studies with Paul Mealor and Philip Cook. In 2013 he graduated summa cum laude from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ, where we studied composition with Joel Phillips and Benjamin CS Boyle and piano with Jim Goldsworthy. LaVoy’s choral music is published by GIA Publications (Chicago) and G Schirmer (New York City), and has been performed frequently in the United States, Canada, Scotland, England, Belgium, Hungary, Taiwan, and Germany. He also recently received a major commission to compose “A Child’s Requiem,” a 45 minute choral-orchestral work, for the 100th anniversary of the 1913 Italian Hall disaster of Calumet, Michigan.
