Valéria Bonafé was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 1984. She studied composition at the University of Sao Paulo (USP) with Aylton Escobar and Silvio Ferraz and attended masterclasses with Emmanuel Nunes, Tristan Murail and Stefano Gervasoni. Her works have been performed at contemporary music concerts and festivals such as SonicFestival (New York), Le mois des compositeurs (Marseille), highSCORE (Pavia, Italy), Música Nova Festival (São Paulo) and Bienal de Música Contemporânea Brasileira (Rio de Janeiro). She finished her master’s degree in 2011 and is currently pursuing her PhD at USP under professor Marcos Branda Lacerda. In the last academic year (2013-2014) she studied with Marco Stroppa at Musikhochschule Stuttgart during an exchange program with a grant of FAPESP.
